Many NHL fans have been absolutely blown away by Jack Hughes’ outstanding performance this season. Jack Hughes was drafted 1st overall in 2019 as an 18 year old. That same year, he made his NHL debut and struggled during his rookie season scoring 7 goals, having 14 assists for 21 points in 61 games. That means he was averaging 0.34 points per game in his rookie season. The vast majority believed he wasn’t living up to “first overall pick” expectations. In his second season, he was a lot better on the ice but his third season is where he had his “breakout” year. On opening night of the 2021-22 season, he scored 2 goals including the game-winning goal (GWG). Unfortunately, that next game he left the ice with a dislocated shoulder and missed the following 17 games. A couple days after returning to the lineup, Hughes started scoring very often again. He started going on several day goal and point streaks. He finished off the season with some incredible statistics. In his 49 games played this season, he recorded 26 goals and 46 assists for a total of 56 points. That means he averaged 1.14 points per game which is an immense improvement from the previous seasons. Many current superstars have similar numbers. Additionally, he was voted to be an NHL All-Star which he did attend. Unfortunately, he sprained his MCL on the 69th game of the season against the New York Islanders and will be out for the remainder of the season. He begins his first year of the 8x8 contract next season (2022-23). Are you looking forward to seeing what Jack Hughes has in store for the upcoming season?
